BLYTHE & PERLS TEAM MEMBERS

Name : Trevor Bowcott 

Trevor holds the position of Manager of Blythe Waters Fishery, also the founder & secretary of Perls Angling Club, formed in 1993 & club secretary of Amington Hall Fishing club.

Trevor has significant experience in fisheries management, both within the angling club arena and in commercial fishery ventures, where he previously managed Northgate Fishery in Staffordshire. He is also the current secretary of the Mid Trent Fisheries Consultative & Qualified Sports UK level 2 Coach. 

Key roles and responsibilities includes overseeing :
 
1. Planning and Preparation
  • Designing Sessions: Creating structured,, progressive coaching sessions tailored to the skill level and age of participants.
  • Risk Assessment: Developing and implementing safety plans, including identifying risks in the coaching environment.
  • Session Planning: Ensuring all equipment is maintained, safe, and suitable for the activity
  •  2. Delivery and Instruction
  • Delivering Coaching: Leading sessions for up to 8 learners (dependent on risk assessment).
  • Technical Advice: Demonstrating and teaching fishing techniques, including casting, setting up rigs, and bait application.
  • Species and Environmental Knowledge: Educating anglers on fish behavior, habitats, and safe handling techniques.
  • Compliance: Ensuring all participants adhere to fishery rules and, if necessary, rod license regulations. 
 
3. Safety and Safeguarding
  • Supervision: Holding, or working under, a valid license that includes current Enhanced DBS, Safeguarding, and First Aid training.
  • Event Management: Acting as the senior lead responsible for the overall safety and wellbeing of participants and volunteers.
  • Duty of Care: Maintaining a positive, safe, and equitable environment free from harassment, following the Angling Trust Code of Practice. 
 
4. Leadership and Mentoring
  • Managing Support Staff: Directing Level 1 Coaches and Volunteers to ensure, for example, safe 1:4-6 ratios for juniors.
  • Mentoring: Supporting the development of less experienced volunteers. 
 
5. Review and Evaluation
  • Evaluation: Monitoring the progress of participants and reviewing the effectiveness of the coaching sessions.
  • Professional Development: Committing to ongoing, personal development within the role.

Name : Richard Ray 

Richard is the Communication Chair & Bailiff for both Perls Angling Club & Blythe Waters Fishery. 

His key roles are managing digital/print communications of all the social media content for our websites and newsletters, handling all public relations and fostering member communication. He is experienced & qualified in several fields within I.T.

Richard has a Institute of Fisheries Management (IFM) training certificate in fishery management and is a Qualified Sports UK level 1 Coach. An experienced and knowledgeable seasoned angler and long-serving member to Perls Angling Club. 

Name : Toni Hickin 

Toni is an Assistant Coach to our Qualified Lead Level 2 Coach Brian Cartridge at Blythe Waters

Toni provides support to Brian with delivering training sessions, providing feedback, analysing performance, and handling administrative tasks. Assisting Brian with training preparation, equipment management, and recruitment of young anglers while fostering a positive, safe, and inclusive team environment.

Her key responsibilities include implementing strategies, mentoring young anglers, and ensuring compliance with regulations. Toni is also responsible with the running of Blythe Water Cafe.

Name : Brian Cartridge

Brian is the Lead Level 2 Coach at Blythe Waters

Brian has a vast amount of coaching experience over a 30 year period that stems back to 1996.
He went on the very first angling coaching course run by the Professional Anglers Association (PAA). Brian then went on to upgrade his coaching qualification, gaining a Sports UK level 2.
 
Brians Key roles and responsibilities
to plan, deliver, and review independent, safe, and structured fishing sessions. Brian is responsible for managing the overall session, including directing Level 1 Support Coaches and Event Support Volunteers. 
 
Brian loves nothing more than being on bank coaching, be it with young children that are new to fishing or people wanting to get back into the sport or to learn & develop a new skill.
